What Basket Can You Make? | Jochebed

May 15, 2025    Trevor Hersey

What if the people we often overlook in Scripture are the very ones we’re meant to learn the most from? In this new series, People You Should Know, we go beyond Bible stories and into real lives—men and women whose quiet faith and courageous choices changed history. Their stories aren’t just ancient—they’re a blueprint for how we can live with bold trust, shed the weights holding us back, and run our God-given race with our eyes fixed on Jesus (Hebrews 12:1–2).

This week, we begin with someone rarely spotlighted—Jochebed, the mother of Moses. She doesn’t get much screen time, but her faith shaped the future. When Pharaoh commanded the death of every Hebrew baby boy, she didn’t freeze in fear. She built a basket. With simple materials and deep trust in God, she did what she could and left the rest in His hands.

If you’ve ever felt unseen, underqualified, or uncertain—this message is for you. God isn’t looking for perfection. He’s looking for the willing. The ones who will say, “I don’t have all the answers, but You can have all of me.”

In this message we explore:

- Why the people in Scripture still matter today

- How to lay down what holds you back and live by faith

- What “building your basket” looks like in real life

- How legacy isn’t always loud—but it is lasting

Hebrews 12:1–2 | Hebrews 11:23–25 | Exodus 1–2 | 1 Corinthians 10:11 | 2 Timothy 1:5

You may never lead a movement or build a platform. But you can live a life of faith that shapes someone else’s forever.

So what basket can you build today?
