Blacksmiths in the Land

What happens when there are no blacksmiths left in the land? In 1 Samuel 13, Israel finds itself facing an enemy without the people needed to forge, repair, and sharpen the tools and weapons they would carry into battle. In this message, Trevor Hersey explores this often overlooked passage of Scripture and shows how the work of a blacksmith gives us a powerful picture of Christian serving, discipleship, leadership, and what it means to use what God has placed in our hands for someone else. Serving is not always visible or celebrated. Sometimes it looks like standing in the hot, dry, thankless places, preparing something another person will eventually need for the battle in front of them.

We also look at the things that can keep us from becoming these kinds of people, including fear, distraction, ignorance, and the spiritual opposition described in Ephesians 6. Whether you serve in church ministry, raise children, disciple students, care for people in need, welcome someone through a church door, or simply show up for someone during a difficult season, your faithfulness matters more than you may ever realize. The world does not need fewer blacksmiths. It needs men and women willing to step into the fire, sharpen what God has entrusted to them, serve others faithfully, and put darkness on the run.
